Many people wonder, “am I a good candidate for a non-surgical facelift?”

You have sagging skin along your jawline.

Sagging skin along the jawline is a common problem as people age. This feature is often given the no-so-nice name of “jowls.” Many think that it’s due to stretched skin that needs to be removed. It’s possible that this is the case, but in many situations, it’s that the structures (your gums, teeth, and jawbone) beneath your skin have changed. In essence, your skin is the same size, but due to missing teeth, grinding, a misaligned jaw, or other factors, the mold around which your skin stretches has shrunk.

If you have sagging skin along your jawline, you are a good candidate for a non-surgical facelift from Dr. Kevin Bril.

You have thin lips.

Many people start to notice that their lips get thinner as they age. If you’re missing teeth, worn teeth, or poorly fitting dentures, your lips may look thin because your teeth, gums, and jaw aren’t holding them in the correct position.

By building your teeth back to their original height, your lips will appear fuller.

You have wrinkles and creases around your mouth.

Do you have wrinkles and creases around your mouth? This could be due to the recession of your jaws and teeth. Perhaps you’re a long-time wearer of ill-fitting dentures or your jaw has receded for another reason (such as gum disease), but either way, Dr. Bril can restore the proportions of your face, therefore smoothing out those wrinkles and creases around your mouth.

The lower third of your face appears shrunken.

We often see shrunken faces on people who have worn dentures for a long time that aren’t quite fitted to their faces and teeth. Dentures place your biting and chewing force onto your gum instead of into your jaw. The problem becomes more pronounced when you have ill-fitting dentures. Since your jaw is not being simulated and your gums are being pushed on unevenly, your jaw starts to recede. This leaves the space between your nose and mouth to get smaller and smaller.

When we restore your teeth to their full height with cosmetic dentures, the height of your face will return, and you’ll look years younger.

You feel self-conscious about the appearance of your face.

It’s common for people to feel self-conscious about the emergence of wrinkles and an older-looking face. If the appearance of your face is bothering you and you’d like to change it, you’re a great candidate for a non-surgical facelift. Your quality of life will improve when you no longer have to worry about wrinkles in photos, sagging skin at your next job interview, or thin lips on your first date.

Considerations by Dental Procedure

Some of the dental procedures used in a non-surgical facelift may require some extra considerations.

Dental Implants/All-on-4 Dental Implants/Implant Bridges: If part of your non-surgical facelift includes dental implants, you’ll need to have adequate jawbone density to hold the implants. You’ll also need to be fit for surgery.

Porcelain Veneers: Porcelain veneers do not replace missing teeth, but they do build up existing teeth. For porcelain veneers, you need healthy teeth and gums.

How to Maintain a Non-Surgical Facelift

Your non-surgical facelift is easy to maintain. Simply follow the instructions for the type of dental treatment you’ve received.

If you received dental implants, crowns, porcelain veneers, or fillings, brush and floss your teeth as normal. And don’t forget to use mouthwash! Keeping your oral health in check and developing a good oral health routine will keep your dental treatments looking fantastic for years to come.

If you got Fountain of Youth Dentures as your non-surgical facelift, be sure to take great care of your dentures by keeping them and your mouth clean.

As always, visit your Minneapolis dentist twice per year or as recommended!

Is there a right age for a non-surgical facelift?

There is no wrong age for a non-surgical facelift. While we’ve discussed ill-fitting dentures at length, there are other reasons why your face may look aged. TMJ disorder is when your jaw becomes misaligned. This can happen for a number of reasons, but many people with TMJ grind their teeth. After a time, your teeth wear down, causing further misalignment and wrinkles. You might be 35 or 65; regardless, you can get a non-surgical facelift if the structure of your teeth, gums, and jaws is compromised.
